The "arburesa" is a folding knife, like the "pattadesa," but it differs from the latter in several characteristics: in crafting the handle, goat horn is preferred—unlike the ram horn used for the pattadesa—and the horn is not cut into two parts but is instead worked as a single piece in an arched shape that follows the curved line of the blade housed within it. The blade of the arburesa is made from durable and flexible steel, capable of maintaining its sharp edge for a long time, and for centuries it has been a reliable tool for both shepherds and in hunting activities.

Arburesa Knives

The Arburesa knife is named after the town of Arbus, a municipality in the province of South Sardinia. It is easily distinguishable from models like the Guspini leppa – or guspinesa – due to the broad shape of its blade, which is why it is called “broadleaf.”
